FAQ:
Where do I begin?
Glad you asked. There are a few things you can purchase ahead of time, and a few things to have ready-to-go during the course of the seder meal. However, the guide will tell you exactly what to do, when it’s time to do it! If you want to read through the guide ahead of time, that would be helpful. Otherwise, just make sure to designate 4 readers beforehand, and someone to also be ready to read the child’s four questions on page 11. Then go with the flow, it will be simple and easy to follow.
How do I prepare the ingredients of the meal?
For this Passover Seder, you’ll need to purchase and prepare the following to set on the “seder plate” (or any large plate or cutting board will do!)
Karpas (parsley)
Salt Water (mix salt into warm water and place in a small bowl, ensure it is Very Salty)
Bitter Herbs (horseradish--either fresh or the kind found in a jar refrigerated in the deli)
Apple Charoset (see recipe, below)
Roasted Lamb Shank (prepare in any way you like; if lamb isn’t in the budget, purchase something as a look-a-like. Remember, there’s freedom!)
Wine or grape juice, of course
Matzah, or some other cracker that has a similar quality.
A meal you can share together during the Intermission for the ‘Passover Meal’. This can be as casual as soup and salad or as fancy as you like. The important thing is that you feast together.
For supplies for the Seder, you will need
2 candles + lighter or matches
a white cloth or napkin in which to wrap the special matzah, see page 9
a wine glass for all
a pitcher and bowl or just a bowl of water, along with a towel, for ceremoniously washing hands around the table
a prize for the one who finds the hidden Matzah on page 22. You’ll understand when you get there!
Apple Charoset Recipe
2 lemons, juiced // 1 cup raisins// 1/2 cup honey
1 teaspoon cinnamon // 1/4 cup red wine // 6 cups peeled, cored and diced green or red apples
1 cup roughly chopped walnuts (or any type of crunchy nut, be sensitive to guests’ allergies)
Combine all ingredients + place on seder plate.
